You will be conservatively draped(covered) the entire time so you will undress to your comfort level.

What is your cancellation policy?

In our desire to be effective and fair to all of our clients and out of consideration for our therapists’ time, we have adopted the following policies:

Atlanta traffic can be crazy so please plan ahead for traffic and travel time. We understand that sometimes life needs to be shifted around, but please give us a courtesy notice as soon as you know that you will need to reschedule. We frequently turn away clients due to a full schedule and we want to avoid anyone missing out on an opportunity to get an appointment.
Appointment times have been arranged specifically for you.

Out of respect and consideration to your therapist and other guests, please plan accordingly and be on time.

You may cancel up to 24 hours prior to your session with no cost to you. However, you will be charged 50% of the scheduled service when canceling an appointment with less than 24 hours notice.

If you do not call or show up for your scheduled session then 100% of the scheduled service will be charged.

Late Arrivals

Depending upon how late you arrive, your therapist will determine if there is enough time remaining to give the scheduled treatment. If you arrive late your session will be given in the remaining time in order to accommodate guests whose appointments follow yours. We will do our best to accommodate the best use of the remaining time, however you will still be charged for the full price of the session originally scheduled.

We look forward to serving your wellness needs!

What should I do during a massage treatment?

Please just make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, he or she will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session. There is no right or wrong way to receive bodywork. It's a time when you can be yourself and let the worries of life fade away for a moment.

Always feel comfortable to report any discomfort you feel. This includes room temperature, lighting, volume of music, or any other distractions. We want to make sure you feel comfortable and at ease on the table. If the massage is too light or too hard, please ask to have the pressure changed.

Ultimately it is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is best. Do not hesitate to communicate your wants or needs and you may ask questions at any time.

How will a session feel?

It usually depends on the techniques used which is discussed with you prior to your treatment. Many Massage Therapists use a form of Swedish massage, which is often a baseline for practitioners. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes (
effleurage) that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that the massage therapist can use another approach or technique.

Should I tip, and if so what is customary?

A gratuity is definitely not required and is something that is earned.

A gratuity is a great way to acknowledge your Massage Therapist and express your appreciation if you are happy with the service and it is based off of the total amount of service.

Please consider this when thanking your therapist for the healing they provide:

Will the massage oils make my skin break out?

Our Massage Therapists use hypoallergenic massage oils, lotions and creams. However, if you have skin sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotion please bring it to the Massage Therapist's attention. We have an assortment of oils and lotions on hand to accommodate any concern.

Is massage always appropriate?

No, there are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. That's why it is necessary that you fill out the health history forms accurately and completely before you begin your session. Please remember all of your information will be kept strictly confidential. The Massage Therapist will ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Your Massage Therapist may require a recommendation or written approval from your doctor for certain medical conditions.

When should I avoid massage?

It is suggested that you not receive massage if you have:

-A cold, flu, or acute infectious disease.  A massage during these times may overload your system with toxins and make you feel worse.
-A fever
-Any open cuts, sores or contagious skin conditions.
-An Acute injury immediately after an accident which resulted in whiplash, sprains, and soft tissue damage.  Massage at a later time will be more effective.
-Any Acute conditions – things that are “flared up” temporarily like inflamed arthritis, phlebitis, psoriasis, or eczema
-Alcohol or drug intoxication – massage is just not healthy when you’re intoxicated or heavily drugged.
-Uncontrolled Blood Pressure
-Uncontrolled Diabetes
-Osteoporosis
-Varicose/Spider Veins (We will just avoid these areas, but you may still receive bodywork)

These are some examples of some common contraindications for bodywork, however this list is NOT all inclusive. We reserve the right to refuse treatment at any time if it is the best interest of the client. In some cases we will require a physician's release to ensure your health and safety.

How long does a massage therapy session last?

The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour with 10 minutes built-in for interview, assessment and changing. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation and extra time to dedicate to problem areas. It is also a great idea to allow relaxation time prior to and after the session for best results.

How will I feel after a massage treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling deep relaxation, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. However, each person is different and will have an experience unique to their body and situation.

Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water before and following your massage. Massage Therapists sometimes recommend a hot Epsom salt bath that encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment. Epsom salt also helps to remineralize your tissues and deeply relax your muscles.

What is a trigger point?

A trigger point is a tiny area of irritation in a stressed muscle. Trigger points refer pain, weakness, or numbness to either surrounding or distant areas of muscle tissue. The key clue pointing to a trigger point is that applying pressure to a specific point causes you to feel pain or another sensation someplace else. Trigger points result from trauma, exposure to cold or infection, overuse, misalignment, or chronically contracted muscles.

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a very specialized form of manual therapy that treats this condition. A Neuromuscular Therapist is educated in the physiology of the nervous system and its effect on the muscular and skeletal systems. An NMT is also educated in Kinesiology and Biomechanics and how to work in a clinical or medical environment.

Our therapists are certified Neuromuscular Therapists. We use a combination of Ischemic Compression, Hydrotherapy and Swedish/Deep tissue therapies to release trigger points to bring about healthy vibrant muscles.

What are the effects of chronic muscle tension?

Chronic muscle tension inhibits circulation, which means your muscles (and other tissues) aren’t receiving the nutrition they need and waste products aren’t being taken away. The lack of nutrition and toxic buildup of waste irritate nerve endings, resulting in weakness and pain. This toxicity also taxes your immune system.

Chronic muscle tension also inhibits movement. Movement is accomplished by paired groups of muscles alternately contracting and lengthening to move the bones to which the muscles attach. Chronically tense muscles disrupt the symmetry of balanced forces acting on the skeleton, holding bones out of position and causing misalignments. For every chronically tight muscle, its opposite (the antagonist) is chronically stretched and weak. These unbalanced forces also cause ligaments to become strained as they try to brace misaligned joints.

Chronic muscle tension also uses up energy, so you fatigue more easily and it makes injury more likely.

How often should I receive bodywork?

The duration of the effects of a massage vary greatly from person to person depending on your physical and mental condition, activities, ability to relax, and ability to heal. If you are receiving massage to help heal injury or to get rid of chronic pain, you usually need to receive weekly massage until you reach that goal.

If you are receiving massage for prevention, health maintenance, or just to feel better, you have more leeway in how often you receive massage. The effects of regular massage are cumulative. A massage every week or two can make a big difference in your overall health and tension levels. Even a monthly massage is beneficial. Make regular massage part of your health maintenance program (along with good nutrition and exercise), and you'll feel better more of the time.

Will it be painful?

Everyone’s threshold of pain is different. Some people want lighter work to help them relax. Others prefer deeper work regardless of the soreness to encourage tissue to deeply heal. Deep massage on tight, chronically contracted muscles may feel good and bad at the same time. If you feel an unusual pain during massage, you should let your therapist know. Be sure to make your pressure preference known to your therapist and don’t hesitate to give feedback if you would like the pressure or depth of stroke adjusted.
